Fun
Introduction

In martial arts, as in any other forms of art, fun is a powerful motivator.
In painting or music, for example, it is the love of the art form that drives the practitioner towards excellence.
This holds true for the art of Karate as well. If Karate weren’t fun, why would you want to do it?
At Ouellette Karate &
Self-Defence, our instructors understand the power of fun. We strive to demonstrate a range of techniques, using a wide variety of teaching methods.
This helps us fulfill our goal of making sure that each class has something for everyone.
Creativity in teaching multiplies the fun factor. Imagine the thrill of defending against multiple attackers during ‘wolf-pack’ Kumite (fighting).
This is a drill that helps stimulate the pressure of a real-life street attack by flooding the defender with an overwhelming amount of sensory information in an effort to teach him or her to maintain focus – all in a fun and safe environment.

The use of striking shields conditions the body to become accustomed to the sensation of impact and helps build power through a more effective use of the hip and shoulder muscles.
Most students think it’s a lot of fun – and a great stress reliever!
Our instructors take the time to explain all aspects of martial arts. This takes us into areas as diverse as the history of Karate, eastern philosophy, physics and body mechanics, human physiology, and the role of pressure points in disabling and healing.
A full understanding of the concepts behind the movements enriches the learning process and enables students to grasp the theory behind the practical movements.
Making the connections between these different aspects of Karate adds a fascinating and fun dimension to our classes.
